Description

Vaporesso ARMOUR ULTRA Kit: 100W, 5500mAh, IP68 and IP69K

The Vaporesso ARMOUR ULTRA is what Vaporesso calls the world’s first Ultra Mod: a 100W direct-to-lung kit with a 5500mAh battery built in – close to the energy of two 18650 cells, on Vaporesso’s figures – in a body 25% smaller and lighter than the ARMOUR S. The mod is certified to IP68 and IP69K for water and dust and to MIL-STD-810H for a 1.2m drop, which makes it the ARMOUR to buy if your vape goes where you go: building sites, boats, festivals, the bottom of a kit bag.

It ships with the iTank T in its Dual Mesh version and GTi 0.2Ω and 0.4Ω Dual Mesh coils – the first GTi coils with a dual-layer mesh, which Vaporesso says last 30% longer. Boost mode sits alongside Pulse, Eco and TC. For our hands-on verdict, read the Vaporesso ARMOUR ULTRA review; below are the specs, coils and tanks, setup, battery, troubleshooting, a comparison with the ARMOUR S and MAX, colours and box contents.

White Vape Co recommends: start on the GTi 0.4Ω Dual Mesh at 55W, Vaporesso’s best setting, for flavour and battery life, then move to the 0.2Ω Dual Mesh at around 65W with Boost on when you want a bigger cloud. Both are dual-layer mesh coils, and the single-mesh GTi coils fit the iTank T too.

Which Coils and Tanks Fit the ARMOUR ULTRA?

The ULTRA is a GTi-coil kit, and Vaporesso says its iTank T takes the whole GTi platform.

Our Vaporesso GTi coils are the single-mesh GTi coils in 0.15Ω, 0.2Ω, 0.4Ω and 0.5Ω. All four are on Vaporesso’s compatible list for the iTank T, from 75–90W for the 0.15Ω down to 30–40W for the 0.5Ω. The Dual Mesh 0.2Ω and 0.4Ω in the kit are a newer version – ask in store about spares.

For a replacement or second tank, the Vaporesso iTank T is the one the ULTRA ships with: top airflow with a scale, slide-open top filling and a self-circulating system that recycles condensation to cut leaks.

Will not fit: GTX coils. Vaporesso’s store is explicit that GTX coils don’t fit the ULTRA’s iTank T.

Getting Started with the ARMOUR ULTRA

  1. Charge the ULTRA before first use; a 9V/2A or 5V/3A fast charger gets it there quickest.
  2. Slide open the top of the iTank T and fill it; the GTi 0.2Ω Dual Mesh coil comes fitted.
  3. Give the coil five minutes to soak.
  4. Set 60–65W for the 0.2Ω (50–55W for the 0.4Ω), and try Boost for a stronger first hit.
  5. Adjust the scaled top airflow, and keep the USB port cover closed when you’re outdoors.

ARMOUR ULTRA Battery Life and Charging

Vaporesso rates the 5500mAh battery at up to three days from a charge in its lab testing, and says it gives 111% longer battery life than a single-18650 mod while being 25% smaller. Heavy DTL use at 65W with Boost will bring that down. Charging is quick for a mod this size – up to 9V/2A or 5V/3A over Type-C – so use a fast phone charger rather than a laptop port. And with the battery built in, there’s nothing to buy, match or check for a damaged wrap.

ARMOUR ULTRA Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause and fix
Got it wet The mod is IP68 and IP69K rated, but Vaporesso says the ratings apply to the mod only. Dry it, check the tank and keep the USB cover closed.
Slow charging Use a charger that supplies 9V/2A or 5V/3A; a laptop USB port charges much more slowly.
Coil won’t fit GTX coils don’t fit the iTank T; use GTi.
Burnt taste Prime for five minutes and start low: 60W on the 0.2Ω, 50W on the 0.4Ω.
Leaking at the base Check the coil and O-rings; spare O-rings and a spare glass come in the box.

The ULTRA gives up the MAX’s 220W and swappable cells in return for a built-in battery, certified protection and a smaller body. Compare the ARMOUR S and ARMOUR MAX kits.

Tested Tough: IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H

Three certifications back up the name. IP68 means the mod is dust-tight and survives being submerged at 1m for more than 30 minutes. IP69K covers high-pressure water jets and water up to 80°C. MIL-STD-810H drop testing from 1.2m covers the front, the corners and other angles. Vaporesso notes that all three apply to the mod only, under standard third-party lab conditions; the tank has its own protector but isn’t certified.

Best E-Liquids for the ARMOUR ULTRA

Like every GTi-coil kit, the ULTRA wants high-VG freebase: our shortfill e-liquids at 3mg or 6mg are ideal. Nic salts belong in a pod kit rather than a 100W sub-ohm tank; see nic salts vs freebase for why.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Vaporesso ARMOUR ULTRA waterproof?

The mod is IP68 and IP69K certified: waterproof to 1m for over 30 minutes, waterjet-proof and dust-tight. The certifications cover the mod, not the tank.

How long does the ARMOUR ULTRA battery last?

Up to three days per charge on Vaporesso’s lab figures; heavy Boost use shortens that.

What coils does the ARMOUR ULTRA use?

GTi coils in the iTank T. It ships with 0.2Ω and 0.4Ω Dual Mesh, and takes the single-mesh 0.15Ω to 0.5Ω too.

Does the ARMOUR ULTRA need batteries?

No. The 5500mAh battery is built in.

Is the ARMOUR ULTRA worth it?

If you want a rugged, long-lasting DTL mod with nothing extra to buy, yes. Our ARMOUR ULTRA review has the full test.

What is Boost mode on the ARMOUR ULTRA?

A mode Vaporesso says is 40% more stable than Eco and 25% more than Pulse, for a stronger first hit and more vapour.

Does the ARMOUR ULTRA have fast charging?

Yes: 9V/2A or 5V/3A over Type-C.
