Is There Vape Tax on E-Liquid? The Honest Answer from White Vape Co

Is There Vape Tax on E-Liquid? A Truthful Review from White Vape Co 2026

Last updated: 4 November 2026

Short answer: yes, vape tax on e-liquid is now law in the UK, but you are not paying it at White Vape Co. Every e-liquid bottle and pre-filled pod on our shelves right now is 100% vape tax free, and we are heavily stocked to keep it that way for as long as we legally and honestly can.

Since the new Vaping Products Duty arrived on 1 October 2026, one question has filled our inbox, our shop counters and Google’s search bar: “Is there vape tax on e-liquid?” Some customers have told us other shops have already put their prices up and blamed “the vape tax”. Others are worried their favourite 10ml nic salt or 100ml shortfill is about to double in price overnight. So we have written this guide to give you the truthful, no-nonsense answer about vape tax on e-liquid, what it costs, when it really hits your pocket, and why White Vape Co is still completely tax free.

The quick answer (as of 4 November 2026)

  • Vape tax on e-liquid (officially called Vaping Products Duty) is £2.20 per 10ml, plus VAT on top.
  • It applies to e-liquid made in or imported into the UK from 1 October 2026.
  • Shops can sell their existing, unstamped, tax-free stock until 31 March 2027.
  • From 1 April 2027, every e-liquid and pre-filled pod sold in the UK must carry an official duty stamp.
  • As of 4 November 2026, White Vape Co is 100% vape tax free, and we hope to stay that way for at least another 2 to 3 months (we can’t guarantee it, but our shelves are full).

What Is the New Vape Tax on E-Liquid?

The vape tax on e-liquid is a brand-new excise duty, the same type of tax that has been charged on tobacco and alcohol for decades. Its official name is Vaping Products Duty (VPD). Before 1 October 2026 there was no excise duty on vaping products at all in the UK, you only ever paid standard VAT.

The government confirmed the duty at the Autumn Budget 2024 and set a single flat rate: £2.20 for every 10ml of vaping liquid, which works out at 22p per millilitre. Crucially, the vape tax on e-liquid is charged on the amount of liquid, not on how much nicotine is in it. That means the vape tax on e-liquid applies only to products that contain liquid:

  • 10ml nicotine salt and freebase e-liquids
  • 50ml and 100ml shortfills, even though they contain zero nicotine
  • Pre-filled pods and cartridges (the tax is on the liquid inside)

It does not apply to empty hardware. Refillable vape kits, mods, tanks, empty refillable pods, coils, batteries and chargers carry no vape tax on e-liquid at all, because they contain no liquid.

VAT is still charged on top of the duty, so the real-world cost for customers is closer to £2.64 per 10ml once the 20% VAT is added to the £2.20 duty.

The duty is paid by manufacturers, importers and approved warehouse keepers, not by shops like us directly. When duty has been paid, the product gets a vaping duty stamp stuck on the box or bottle packaging. That stamp is how you, us and Trading Standards can tell whether the duty has actually been paid on a product.

Is There Vape Tax on E-Liquid Kits and Devices?

This is one of the most common mix-ups we hear in store. The simple answer: vape tax on e-liquid is a tax on the liquid, not on the device. The duty is worked out purely on how many millilitres of vaping liquid a product contains, so anything with no liquid in it has nothing to tax.

  • No vape tax: refillable pod kits, box mods, tanks, empty refillable pods, coils, batteries, chargers and accessories.
  • Vape tax on e-liquid applies: bottled e-liquids, shortfills, and pre-filled pods or cartridges (charged on the liquid inside only).

So if you are buying a new refillable kit, the price will not change because of vape tax on e-liquid. It is only the juice you fill it with, or a pod that comes pre-filled, that will eventually carry the duty. That is one more reason many vapers are choosing a refillable kit and stocking up on tax-free bottles while they still can.

When Does Vape Tax on E-Liquid Start? The Key Dates

This is where most of the confusion comes from. The law did change on 1 October 2026, but HMRC built in a six-month grace period so that shops could sell through the stock they already held. Here is how the timeline actually works:

Date What happens
1 April 2026 Manufacturers, importers and warehouses start applying to HMRC for approval.
1 October 2026 Vape tax on e-liquid begins. New stock made in or imported into the UK must be duty paid and stamped.
1 October 2026 – 31 March 2027 Grace period. Shops can legally keep selling eligible unstamped stock produced or imported before 1 October 2026, with no duty on it.
1 January 2027 Only digital duty stamps (with a scannable code) can be applied to new products.
1 April 2027 Every e-liquid and pre-filled pod on sale in the UK must carry a valid duty stamp. Unstamped stock can no longer be sold and may be seized.

In plain English: vape tax on e-liquid is real, but between now and the end of March 2027 a genuine shop can still be selling you completely tax-free stock. By April 2027, every bottle you buy anywhere in the UK will have the tax built into its price.

Why Is the Government Introducing Vape Tax on E-Liquid?

The government has given two main reasons for the new duty. The first is to make vaping less affordable and less appealing to young people and non-smokers, alongside the wider rules brought in under the Tobacco and Vapes Act. The second is to raise money for public services. At the same time, tobacco duty went up on 1 October 2026 as well, so cigarettes and rolling tobacco remain far more heavily taxed than vapes.

For adult smokers who have switched, that gap still matters. Even once every bottle carries a duty stamp, vaping is expected to stay considerably cheaper than smoking. Our advice is simple: don’t let the headlines push you back to cigarettes. Talk to our team and we will help you find the most cost-effective setup for the way you vape.

How Much Will Vape Tax on E-Liquid Add to My Vapes?

Because the duty is a flat 22p per ml, it is easy to work out the minimum it will add to each product. The figures below show the duty and VAT on that duty only. Final shelf prices may differ once suppliers and brands set their own pricing.

Product Duty Duty + VAT on duty
2ml pre-filled pod £0.44 approx. £0.53
10ml nic salt or freebase £2.20 approx. £2.64
50ml shortfill £11.00 approx. £13.20
100ml shortfill £22.00 approx. £26.40

As you can see, the vape tax on e-liquid hits shortfill vapers hardest. A 100ml shortfill could rise by well over £20 once duty-stamped stock becomes the only option. If you vape big bottles, the next few months are the time to make the most of tax-free prices.

Is White Vape Co Charging Vape Tax on E-Liquid? No, We Are 100% Tax Free

Let’s be completely clear: as of 4 November 2026, White Vape Co is not charging any vape tax on e-liquid, on any product, in any of our stores or online. We have not added a “duty surcharge”, we have not quietly bumped our prices and blamed the government, and we have not put a single penny of vape tax onto stock that never had vape tax paid on it.

Every product we sell today was produced or imported before 1 October 2026, which means no Vaping Products Duty was ever paid on it. Under HMRC’s own rules, it is perfectly legal for us to sell this stock until 31 March 2027. It would be dishonest for us to charge you vape tax on e-liquid that nobody has paid, so we simply won’t.

When we eventually start stocking products that carry the official vaping duty stamp, our prices on those stamped products will reflect the duty that the manufacturer has genuinely paid. Until that day, you pay tax-free prices. Simple as that.

How Well Stocked Is White Vape Co With Tax-Free E-Liquid?

Very! We saw the vape tax on e-liquid coming a long way off and planned for it. In the months before 1 October 2026 we bought in deep, so our shelves and stockrooms are packed with genuine, fully compliant, tax-free stock across the ranges our customers love most:

  • 10ml nic salts in all your everyday flavours and strengths
  • 50ml and 100ml shortfills, where the tax-free saving is biggest
  • Pre-filled pods and replacement pods for popular pod kits
  • Pod kits, coils and accessories to keep your setup running

All of our stock comes from legitimate UK suppliers, so you are getting authentic, TPD-compliant products, not grey-market bottles. That matters more than ever, because higher prices from the new duty are expected to tempt more illegal sellers into the market.

We would genuinely rather our customers enjoyed tax-free prices for as long as possible than rush to stamped stock just to raise our margins. If you can’t see your usual flavour online, pop into one of our stores and ask, as there is often more in the stockroom than on the shelf.

How Long Will White Vape Co Stay Vape Tax Free?

We want to be honest with you here rather than make promises we can’t keep. Based on our current stock levels, we hope to remain completely vape tax free for at least another 2 to 3 months. However, that is not guaranteed. Some flavours and strengths will sell out faster than others, and once a particular line runs out of tax-free stock, any new deliveries of it will arrive duty paid and stamped.

What we can guarantee is this: the law says all unstamped stock must be sold by 31 March 2027, so by April 2027 at the very latest, every shop in the UK, including us, will be selling duty-stamped products with the tax included in the price. Anyone who tells you they will stay tax free after April 2027 is either mistaken or selling illegal stock.

The best way to hear first when tax-free stock is running low on your favourites is to join the White Vape Co Vape Club. Members get the heads-up on stock news, offers and changes before anyone else.

What Does the Vape Duty Stamp Look Like?

The vaping duty stamp is your proof that Vaping Products Duty has been paid on a product. HMRC describes the stamps as yellow or red, tamper-evident, rectangular stamps fixed to the retail packaging. They must be placed so that the packaging can’t be opened without visibly damaging the stamp, the product, or both.

There are two types:

  • Transitional stamps: these carry the same security features as the final design but no scannable code. They could only be applied until 31 December 2026.
  • Digital stamps: from 1 January 2027, new products must use stamps with a digital element (a data matrix code) that can be scanned. HMRC says retailers and customers will in time be able to scan these to check a product is genuine.

If a product you are offered after 1 April 2027 does not have one of these stamps, do not buy it. It means duty has not been paid and the product is likely illegal. Anyone who suspects a vaping product is illicit can report it to HMRC.

Are Other Vape Shops Already Adding Vape Tax? What the Law Actually Says

We have heard from plenty of customers who say other shops and websites have already put prices up by “the vape tax”. So it is worth explaining what the law really says.

Vape tax on e-liquid is only paid on stock produced in, or imported into, the UK from 1 October 2026. Stock that was already in a shop’s stockroom before that date had no duty paid on it at all. HMRC lets shops sell that unstamped stock until 31 March 2027, and that stock does not carry a duty stamp.

So if a shop is selling unstamped bottles but telling customers the higher price is because of “vape tax” or “duty”, that shop is charging you for a tax that was never paid. Shops are free to set their own prices, but UK consumer protection law, including the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, makes it unlawful to mislead customers about the price of a product or the reason for a price. Telling you a surcharge is a government tax when no tax has been paid on that product is a misleading claim, and Trading Standards can take action against businesses that mislead consumers in this way.

Here is the simple test any customer can use: look for the stamp. If a shop says your e-liquid includes vape tax, the box or bottle packaging should carry an official yellow or red vaping duty stamp. No stamp means no duty has been paid, and no vape tax should be in that price. If you think you have been charged a fake vape tax, you can report it to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

White Vape Co is a genuine, authentic, local vape business with real shops, real staff and real customers we see every week. Our reputation matters far more to us than squeezing a few extra pounds out of a new law. That is why our promise is simple:

We work with Trading Standards, not around them.

Questions People Are Searching About Vape Tax on E-Liquid

We know a lot of people land on our blog after typing their worries straight into Google. Here are the most common ways people are asking about vape tax on e-liquid and shops charging it, with quick, honest answers.

“Why has my vape shop already added vape tax?”

Some shops have chosen to raise prices early. If the products are unstamped, no duty was paid on them, so the extra charge is not actually vape tax on e-liquid. Ask to see the duty stamp.

“Can shops charge vape tax on old stock?”

Shops can set any price they like, but they should not tell you a price includes vape tax if no duty was paid. Old, unstamped stock made before 1 October 2026 is duty free.

“Is it legal to charge vape duty before April 2027?”

It is legal to sell genuinely duty-paid, stamped products now, and those prices will include the tax. Claiming duty on unstamped products where it was never paid risks breaching consumer protection law.

“Why are vapes suddenly more expensive?”

Newly made stock now carries duty at £2.20 per 10ml plus VAT. Some shops have switched to that stock early; others, like us, are still selling tax-free stock.

“How do I know if I’m really paying vape tax?”

Check the packaging for a yellow or red tamper-evident duty stamp. If there is no stamp, no vape tax on e-liquid has been paid on that product.

“Where can I still buy tax-free vape juice?”

Right here. White Vape Co is still 100% free of vape tax on e-liquid, in store and online, while our pre-duty stock lasts.

How to Save Money Before Vape Tax on E-Liquid Reaches Every Shelf

There are still plenty of ways to beat the new vape duty for a while yet:

  • Make the most of shortfills. With up to £26 or more of duty and VAT heading for each 100ml bottle, tax-free shortfills are the biggest saving in the shop right now.
  • Join our Vape Club. The White Vape Co Vape Club is the easiest way to hear about stock news, member offers and when tax-free lines are close to selling out.
  • Use same-day delivery. Live in SO45 or SO40? Order online and get tax-free stock delivered the same day for £4.99.

Vape Tax on E-Liquid: Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there vape tax on e-liquid in the UK?

Yes. Vape tax on e-liquid, officially Vaping Products Duty, started on 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml, with VAT charged on top. It only applies to stock produced in or imported into the UK from that date.

2. Is White Vape Co charging vape tax?

No. As of 4 November 2026, White Vape Co is 100% vape tax free. All our stock was produced or imported before the duty began, so no duty has been paid on it and we do not charge any.

3. How long will White Vape Co stay tax free?

We hope to stay free of vape tax on e-liquid for at least another 2 to 3 months, but this is not guaranteed as some lines will sell out sooner than others. By law, all shops must be selling duty-stamped products from 1 April 2027.

4. When will vape tax on e-liquid apply in every shop?

From 1 April 2027. After 31 March 2027, unstamped stock can no longer be sold, so every legal e-liquid and pre-filled pod in the UK will carry a duty stamp and have the tax built into its price.

5. How much is the vape tax on a 10ml bottle?

The duty is £2.20 per 10ml. With 20% VAT on top of the duty, that is roughly £2.64 extra per 10ml bottle, before any supplier price changes.

6. Do nicotine-free shortfills have vape tax?

Yes, once duty-paid stock arrives. The duty is charged on the volume of liquid, not nicotine, so a 100ml shortfill carries £22 in duty plus VAT.

7. What does the vape duty stamp look like?

HMRC describes vaping duty stamps as yellow or red, tamper-evident, rectangular stamps fixed to the retail packaging. Newer digital stamps also include a scannable code.

8. Is it illegal for shops to charge vape tax on unstamped stock?

Shops can set their own prices, but telling customers a price includes vape tax when no duty was paid is misleading, and misleading pricing claims are unlawful under UK consumer protection law. Look for the stamp: no stamp means no duty was paid.

9. Can I report a shop charging fake vape tax?

Yes. You can report misleading pricing to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline. Suspected illegal or unstamped products after 31 March 2027 can be reported to HMRC.

10. Is there vape tax on vape kits and devices?

No. Vape tax on e-liquid is only charged on the liquid itself. Refillable kits, mods, tanks, empty pods, coils and batteries have no duty on them. Pre-filled pods do carry duty on the liquid inside, so a 2ml pod has 44p of duty plus VAT.

11. Should I stock up on tax-free e-liquid now?

Many customers are buying a few months’ supply of their regular flavours at tax-free prices. Store e-liquid somewhere cool and dark, keep it away from children and pets, and only buy what you will realistically use.

12. How can I find out when White Vape Co starts selling stamped stock?

Join the White Vape Co Vape Club for stock updates, or ask our team in any of our stores. We will be upfront the moment stamped, duty-paid products start reaching our shelves.

The Bottom Line on Vape Tax on E-Liquid

But right now, at White Vape Co, you are not paying a penny of it. We are fully stocked with genuine, tax-free products, we hope to stay that way for at least the next 2 to 3 months, and we will only add vape tax on e-liquid to our prices when we are selling products that carry the official HMRC duty stamp.
